"Afghan Girl"
The photo I emulated is entitled "Afghan Girl" by Steve McCurry. It was featured in National Geographic Magazine when Steve stumbled upon this refugee in 1984. Steve was doing a piece for the magazine about refugees fleeing Pakistan as a result of Soviet attacks. The girl's striking features draw the viewer into the photo, her green eyes being the main focal point. There is also a distinct foreground and middle ground because of how out of focus the wall behind the subject is.
I borrowed my friend's scarf in an attempt to recreate this photo. I tried to look as scared and upset as possible to mimic the refugee's facial expressions. I'm in the foreground and the background is slightly blurred. My brown eyes pop out because of the way they contrast with the purple scarf.
